Aimed at the growing LCV market, the Partner and MiTR are powered by an advanced diesel engine.
Ashok Leyland recently launched two new Light Commercial Vehicles - Partner truck and MiTR bus. Manufactured as part of a joint venture with Nissan Motor Company, the Partner is an air-conditioned goods carrier while the MiTR is a 27 -seater, which marks Ashok Leyland's entry into the staff transport vehicle category.
Speaking after unveiling the vehicles, Dr V Sumantran, Vice Chairman, Ashok Leyland, said, "With these two new products, we have stayed true to our LCV mission - to deliver to the Indian customer, contemporary products that deliver best-in-class user experience, coupled with exceptional efficiency." The launch of Partner, Dr Sumantran explained, has enabled Ashok Leyland fill a gap in its product portfolio and position it across all major segments of the Indian commercial vehicle segment.
Ashok Leyland had earlier launched the Dost in the sub-2.5-tonne segment and Boss in the 8-16-tonne segment. The Partner is now positioned in the 3.5 to 7 tonne segment. Apart from this, the company had launched the Stile MPV and Captain truck in the 16 tonne category. Dr Sumantran pointed out that the launch of Partner and MiTR LCVs completed a trilogy of vehicles from the Nissan joint venture and added that the companies would henceforth be working on launching new vehicle variants.
Focusing on driver comfort, the Partner sports a modern Euro cab with spacious car-like interiors. With a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) capacity of 6.6T, the Partner will address applications like transporting parcel goods, durables, perishables and FMCG products among others. The Partner also features tiltable cabin for service accessibility and a choice of two wheel base options and optional HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air-conditioning) system. The Partner LS with wheelbase of 2850 mm is priced at Rs 8.89 lakh, and LX (with HVAC system) is Rs 9.19 lakh. Partner LS with wheelbase of 3350 mm is priced at Rs. 9.19 lakh, while the LX with wheelbase of 3350 mm (with HVAC system) costs Rs 9.49 lakh (all rices ex-showroom Chennai). Power steering is a common feature on all vehicles. The MiTR bus is available with parabolic suspension at the front and rear, claimed to be an industry first.It will also be made available in a school bus variant that adheres to school bus body code guidelines of all state governments. MiTR standard bus with power steering is priced at Rs. 12.49 lakh (ex-showroom, Chennai).
Based on the globally acclaimed F24 platform, both Partner and MiTR are powered by an advanced ZD30 Common Rail diesel engine that ensures superior fuel-efficiency and better turnaround time. The ZD30 is a 3-litre engine that produces 116 hp and a peak torque of 320 Nm.
Both vehicles are loaded with features like power steering with tilt-able adjustment and cable-operated gear shifter for superior driver comfort. At the 2014 Auto Expo, the company put on display the Partner and MiTR. Also on display were a tipper version of the Dost; a customised version of Stile MPV; school-bus version of MiTR; a refrigerated 'container' variant of Boss ICV, and the Captain 2523 Tipper.
