Ashwani Gupta, a veteran Renault-Nissan Executive, is slated to take over as the head of Renault-Nissan light commercial vehicle alliance unit, and the company is expected to make an announcement to this effect shortly. Gupta, in his new role, will be reporting directly to Carlos Ghosn, the CEO of Renault-Nissan. Gupta will play a crucial role at the Franco-Japanese carmaker which broke into the top three carmakers’ league globally last year, and is eyeing deeper synergies in the LCV space. The group is in the process of setting up a separate alliance vertical for light commercial vehicles, drawing on synergies from Renault, Nissan, and possibly even Mitsubishi. Renault is a strong player in the van segment in Europe and Latin America, while Nissan is big in the pick-up truck space, especially in the Middle East and Asia, and Mitsubishi is strong in the pick-up space in the ASEAN region.
