…says Ajay Durrani, Managing Director, Covestro India, who sees immense opportunity for high-tech polymers in the current ICE (internal combustion engine) driven, as well as, the future mobility space. At the show Covestro will showcase innovations in high-tech materials and adavanced technologies, which will make future transportation sustainable.
How do you serve automotive industry (globally and India)?
The automotive industry has been one of the key sectors where Covestro’s talented materials have been ushering in sustainability. The key trends in global automotive industry have been: lightweighting and low emission, personalised mobility, autonomous cars, and electric vehicles (EVs). All of these trends make it necessary to totally re-think the materials used in automotive engineering today. Covestro has been an active contributor to each of these trends.
Covestro’s polycarbonates are replacing glass and metal from automobiles, which have been the dominant materials in exterior vehicle design. Especially in intelligent and progressive light weight technology and automotive glazing, we have been at the forefront of offering intelligent alternatives to conventional materials.
In India, the auto sector contributes to a quarter of our revenues. Thus, it is one of the core growth markets for us. India is also a formidable part of our APAC growth strategy. We have been the partner of choice for most of the leading car manufacturers. With the government ushering in a trend of EVs, we are excited to work with the mobility industry and not just on the materials that makes an EV work more efficiently and look great, but also on the materials that would help build a sustainable infrastructure to support the EVs. We are now working along with the EV manufacturers for futuristic interiors and exteriors, lightweighting, insulation and lighting, as well as, with the battery module and charging station manufacturers.
What are your plans for Auto Expo?
The Auto Expo has been one of the key auto shows in India. Here, Covestro will highlight its global solutions crafted for the automotive industry keeping that is in line with the trend of future mobility.
Covestro sees immense opportunity for its high-tech polymers in the current ICE (internal combustion engine) driven, as well as, the future mobility space. The Indian auto industry has been surging ahead for the third consecutive quarter, registering a double-digits growth backed by the strong sales of passenger vehicles. At the same time, the rise of EVs and the commitment by the government to switch to EVs opens enormous opportunities for us.
Visitors to the show will witness how Covestro is continuously pushing boundaries in innovation with its high-tech materials and advanced technologies that make the ICE vehicles, self-driving cars as well as electric vehicles of the future more sustainable and eco-sensitive. A range of our products from the advanced glazing technologies, holographic lighting, EV battery packaging etc will be at the show.
Will we see any new product launch from Covestro at the Expo?
Covestro has a range of advanced polymers and special chemicals range that befits the Indian mobility space. Since we are a pioneer in the space, we shall be introducing few advance technologies in the automobile system manufacturing rather than launching a product portfolio.
What are your expectations from Auto Expo 2018?
Covestro has been the partner of choice for many car manufacturers of the world. At Auto Expo 2018, we want to highlight our expertise, throw a spotlight on the various exciting successful partnerships with Indian manufacturers, and forge new alliances and partners in the industry.
By participating in this show, we would like to engage in the joint development projects with the Indian OEMs and also explore partnerships in the space of next generation electric vehicles.
