Dassault Systemes, a French software company has announced the launch of Solidworks 2018, the latest release of its portfolio of 3D design and engineering applications. This features an integrated range of solutions for the complete design-to-manufacturing process to ensure a seamless flow. The applications will enable businesses of any size to rethink their approach towards design and production and quickly bring innovative ideas to the market.
The company, which calls itself “the 3DExperience company”, gives Solidworks 2018 a powerful platform through which it can support a business’ complete design through manufacturing strategy with solutions that simplify the interactions between disciplines across the product development work flow.
A connected and seamless flow of data is made available to all teams that are involved in product development, in whatever format they need it. This unified process is called smart manufacturing which will be leveraged effectively by the new applications.
With Solidworks 2018, teams can collaborate in order to rapidly design a product or part cost-efficiently, validate its function and manufacturability, and manage its data and related processes. Solidworks 2018 can also streamline and automate a product’s manufacturing, and inspect it. Any changes in design or manufacturing are fast and easy to manage and automatically flow to all related models, programs, drawings and documentation, thanks to intellectual property embedded early on in the design process.
A key feature of the portfolio is Solidworks CAM, a new application that provides rules-based machining with knowledge capture to allow designers and engineers to gain a greater understanding of how their designs are made and to make more informed decisions. This will also speed up prototype parts creation, quality control, and delivery. This application also enables production teams to execute new build-to-order strategies with custom parts that are automatically designed and programmed within seconds.
“A successful consumer experience must have a well-designed product at its core and an efficient way to produce it. Solidworks 2018 brings more than just a smarter approach to manufacturing parts or products, it helps businesses translate imagination into innovation and build ecosystems,” said Gian Paolo Bassi, CEO, Solidworks, Dassault Systemes.
The company plans to roll out more end-to-end solution for business communities over the coming months. This portfolio by the 3D and engineering giant has aimed at solving production problems for small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) as well as big production and manufacturing industries.
“Solidworks 2018 aims to revolutionize the product development and manufacturing process for SME’s and start-ups and enable them to move up on the value chain. We plan to cater to key verticals under Make in India initiative- automobile and components, aviation, defence, manufacturing, and electrical machinery,” said PM Ravikumar, Senior Director, Professional Channel, Solidworks, Dassault Systemes.
