We know that BS VI is going to roll out in over a year’s time. Where does the industry’s preparation stand currently?
This is not directly related to seating, but OEMs are reducing weights of cars which, in turn, leads to demand in lighter seats.
How is the industry moulding itself in order to meet the different safety norms? Also tell us abut Faurecia's role in this. We have frames that are globally available which can meet all the requirements for Global NCAP. Faurecia has invested in new technologies such as laser welding and TEF.
What is the role of automation in increasing the efficiency of products?
Faurecia is the market leader in introducing automation across its manufacturing platforms. Digitisation is one such case where we are trying to move towards smarter solutions.
What is Faurecia doing to in order to make its products more sustainable and efficient?
Faurecia has invested in laser welding and tube end forming in order to have lighter and safer seats.
What are some of the emerging technologies/trends in the automotive industry that can tackle the issue of safety overall?
The Global New Car Assessment Programme (Global NCAP) is a major project of the Towards Zero Foundation. Global NCAP serves as a platform for co-operation among new car assessment programmes worldwide and promotes the universal adoption of the United Nation’s most important motor vehicle safety standards worldwide. The top three safest cars and their respective volumes in 2018 are as follows: (I) TATA Nexon: 48,356, (ii) Mahindra Marazzo: 10,403 and (iii) Toyota Etios: 18,911.
Finally, what are the ways in which the challenges to attaining safety standards are being overcome? The top 3 safest cars in India are TATA Nexon (2 variants), Mahindra Marazzo and Toyota Etios. Safety can now be sold in India and many car manufacturers are withdrawing non-air bag versions. Global NCAP strongly welcomed the Indian Government’s announcement in 2015 that UN equivalent crash test standards for front and side impact will be applied in India for new models from 1st October 2017 and for all cars from 1st October 2019.
