Modern cars are equipped with a lot of safety features, which have become possible through innovation. But in India, car safety is an expensive affair. Here, the Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assessment Programme (BNVSAP) will be pivotal, which is designed to provide a fair, meaningful and objective assessment of the safety performance of cars. Once the new programme is implemented, all car manufacturers will have to provide safety features like airbags, ABS and 3 point retractable seatbelts as standard fitment.
When asked how Faurecia is helping the car manufacturers achieve the quality standards for car safety and ergonomics, Rashinkar replied, “We, at Faurecia Interiors, take care of safety in design and development according to requirements of regulations and NCAP tests. For that, we have a dedicated team to work on it. We are not only focusing on safety of current design and development but also on safety related innovations, which is the need of the car industry considering autonomous driving. Also from ergonomics point of view, we are working on innovations related with seat, armrest and dashboard, which will ease the driver, passengers’ body movements and their driving comfort.”
