Eicher Trucks & Buses (A business area of VECV) has introduced its most recent bus offering in the form of a rear engine semi low-floor city bus. Having delivered ten such buses to Gujarat State Road Transport, the rear engine semi low-floor bus could be had with either a one or two step entry, and was first showcased at the 2010 Auto Expo as a proto. Designed and developed in conformance to the JnNURM guidelines as stipulated by the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India, the modern city bus reflects the company's invcreasing focus towards medium and heavy duty bus segments.The supply of ten buses us part of the order of 20 numbers from GSRTC, which is company is currently executing, and heralds the advent of Eicher in the city bus segment. The supply of modern city buses rides on the back of Eicher launching upgraded version of its front engine heavy duty bus, Eicher 20.15, across the country. Eicher has launched another new model Eicher 11.12, which is a 12 Ton GVW / 4650mm wheelbase platform. It is an intermediate product powered by a four cylinder 95KW engine with seating capacity similar to a six cylinder vehicle.With the increasing cost of acquisition and operation, the Eicher 11.12 bus chassis aims to reduce the overall cost of operations including the initial cost of acquisition of the bus. This vehicle is suitable to be deployed as a school bus, staff bus, tourist bus, and even in the stage carriage segments. While the bus industry has experienced a decline of around 8% in the first 9 months of 2011, the volumes of Eicher Buses have grown by over 32% in the same period resulting in significant improvement in the company's market share. In 2010, Eicher sold over 5000 buses, across all segments.
