Eclipse Inc Celebrates 100 Years


Eclipse Inc., the Rockford, IL based world-leading combustion engineering major is presently celebrating its 100 years of Global Family Business. 

Founded in 1907 by Garnet McKee, Eclipse is now headed by the Perks family, and is now celebrating its First 100 years in all its establishments across the world spanning the Netherlands, China, several other European and Asian nations including India, during 2007 and 2008. 

Eclipse worldwide has steadily grown to be the leader in Innovative Thermal Solutions for all types of industrial heating needs and from the current US$ 100 mn plus turnover plans to reach US$ 150 mn in the very near future. 

As part of the celebrations, Eclipse Chairman & CEO, Douglas Perks, and Executive Vice President, Paul Carpenter, visited India during the 1st week of December 2007. During their visit to Pune, Delhi and Bangalore, they met customers, employees and other business associates and helped spread the messages of Clean Heat, Clean Air for Industry. Mr Perks also appreciated the potential for Eclipse products in the current upbeat Indian economy and the firm’s intentions to concentrate significantly more on its presence in India and the subcontinent. 

During the celebrations in India, Eclipse’s approach to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) was also touched upon in line with the practice in all other parts of the world. As a first step towards CSR, Eclipse, Pune, has announced its plans to sponsor a special Combustion Engineering course in 3 modules at the Sinhagad College of Engineering. The course would stress on the basics of combustion with special emphasis to its relevance to practicing industry professionals in the field. 

To continue the 100 year celebrations, Eclipse India plans to hold celebrations for all its prized customers in the 4 metro cities and in 1 Central Indian location in the next few months. Skoda Sells 2050 Units in March 2008


Riding on the launch of the Fabia premium hatchback, Skoda India sold 2050 units in March 2008, marking a 27.2 per cent growth in sales when compared to 1612 units sold in March 2007. Out of the 2050 units Fabia amounts to 702 units.

M&M and ICICI Venture to Acquire Metalcastello S.P.A


A consortium of Mahindra & Mahindra and ICICI Venture Funds has signed a definitive agreement to acquire 100 per cent stake in Metalcastello S.p.A, a leading Italian independent gear manufacturer based at Bologna. The transaction is subject to receipt of necessary approvals. 

With revenues of around US$ 100 million, Metalcastello was founded in 1952 and is among the leading manufacturers in Europe, focusing primarily on the off-highway segment. The company’s product portfolio includes complex gears and shafts for use in vehicle transmissions and drivelines. Its customer portfolio includes most of the global OEMs in the tractor, off highway and construction equipment space. Currently, financial investors hold 84.7 per cent of which 66.5 per cent is held by private equity fund development capital, advised by Italian firm Alto Partners and top management holds 15.3 per cent in Metalcastello. 

The company is expected to benefit from the continued presence of the erstwhile management of Metalcastello S.p.A in further building the business of Metalcastello. Gabriele Pierotti will continue to be the CEO and brings with him experience of 30 years in the gears industry.
