BSA Motors, a strategic business unit of the Rs.
9582-crore Murugappa Group company, Tube Investments of India, has
launched five electric scooter models. These scooters are
manufactured at the BSA Motors' new plant in Ambattur, with an
investment of Rs.200 million for the first phase. The plant, which
is equipped with a facility for painting, assembly and
comprehensive testing in addition to a motorized conveyor assembly
line with modern assembly tools, has an initial production
capacity of 150 e-Scooters a day which can be ramped upto 300
units per day as and when required.
While the key parts like motor, controller,
battery, lamps, wheel discs, tyres and tubes are sourced from
reputed automotive vendors, the e-scooters are available in five
models—(250 watts) Smile, (250 watts) Diva, (250 watts) Street
Rider, (500 watts) Roamer and (800 watts) Roamer+. The e-scooters
are certified by Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI)
to be used in public roads in India. Maintenance free batteries
and motors make the e-scooters 100per cent trouble free. BSA
Motors initially plans to set up 45 exclusive dealerships before
December 2008 in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala,
Puducherry and Goa.
