The Indian automobile industry has registered decline of 4.71 per cent in domestic sales for the month of January 2017 and stood at 1,620,045 units, according to data released by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). The passenger vehicle segment witnessed positive growth in January, rest all the segments posted decline in domestic sales. The PV segment grew 14.4 per cent at 265,320 units as against 231,917 units during January 2016. While sales of passenger cars increased 10.83 percent at 186,523 units, utility vehicles' sales was up by 24.47 percent at 62,264 units. Coming to two wheelers segment, which de-grew by 7.39 per cent, both scooter and motorcycle sales decreased 14.5 per cent, and 6.07 per cent, respectively. Mopeds sold 69,373 units, thereby registering year-on-year growth of 28.83 per cent.
