Ashok Leyland, flagship of the Hinduja Group, announced the beginning of construction of its bus plant in Andhra Pradesh. The ground breaking ceremony marked the beginning of work on a Greenfield factory which will be the first Ashok Leyland plant in Andhra Pradesh. Situated in Model Industrial Park, Mallavalli Village in Krishna District, the auspicious ceremony was performed in the presence of the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Nara Chandrababu Naidu and Managing Director & CEO of Ashok Leyland, Vinod K Dasari.

Ashok Leyland Ltd and Hino Motors Ltd Japan (henceforth referred to as Hino) have entered into a mutual co-operation agreement (MCA) where Ashok Leyland will utilise Hino’s engine technology for Ashok Leyland’s EURO-VI development and will support in development of Hino’s engine parts purchasing in India for global operation.

This order, one of the largest from a State Transport Undertaking for a single OEM, would be executed in the current financial year which would help Ashok Leyland in furthering its leadership position in buses.

Truck and bus maker Ashok Leyland has formed a technical alliance with Sun Mobility, promoted by Chetan Maini, Founder of Reva Electric Vehicle, and Uday Khemka, for producing and selling electric vehicles. The first electric bus as a result of the alliance will be rolled out in 12-18 months. About Rs. 100 crore of investment will be made jointly in the initial phase with a proto-type ready by January 2018.

The Supreme Court’s ban on sale of BS-III vehicles from April 1, when BS IV emission norms will come into effect, is more a concern regarding availability of right quality fuel than compliance, according to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers.
