Auto Expo 2020-Components: A growth catalyst

With over 1,500 companies and nearly 1,200 product launches, Auto Expo 2020-Components received enthusiastic response from all participants as the automotive segment prepares to undergo a significant transformation.

The 15th edition of Auto Expo 2020-Components witnessed over 1,500 companies exhibiting their latest products and solutions. The expo attracted 200 international exhibitors from over 20 countries, with dedicated pavilions for countries like Japan, South Korea, UK, Germany, Turkey and Canada.

The event that ran from February 6-9, attracted over 11,500 visitors during the four-day period. Organised jointly by the country’s three leading industry bodies, Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA), Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), it also attracted several dignitaries including central ministers, senior government officials and who’s who of the world’s fifth-largest automobile industry.

Expressing satisfaction on the success of the event, Deepak Jain, President, ACMA remarked, “The show truly reflected the confidence in the Indian auto component industry and its readiness for the future of mobility. It is noteworthy that the exhibitors displayed world-class, generation next products, which confirmed to its overall theme, Technovation.”

Jain added that the show also portrayed the capability and the willingness of the Indian component industry to align itself with the government’s vision of making India a $5 trillion-dollar economy by 2025, of which their contribution would be $250 billion.

Speaking at the event, Vipin Sondhi, Chairman CII, Trade Fair Council & Managing Director & CEO, Ashok Leyland, said, “The footfall at the exhibition itself was resounding proof of confidence in the component industry. The display of innovative and advanced technologies, electric vehicle (EV) components and emphasis on import substitution for electric vehicles (EV)s were of great importance. It holds key to the future of mobility, as well as our promise to become successful internationally.”

The expo themed ‘Technovation: Discover Innovations for Future’ reflected the potential of the Indian auto component industry to imbibe the latest advancements in Bharat Stage (BS)-VI and emissions, EVs, safety and e-mobility. Altogether 16 companies were represented at the special Technovation pavilion at the site, out of which around ten companies showcased the latest EV components like lithium battery packs and chargers, powertrain components and software application, etc. The pavilion also had eight start-ups who showcased their innovative products and solution across segments for the very first time.

Andhra Pradesh commits to support auto industry

On the second day of the expo, Goutham Reddy, Minister for Industries & Commerce and Information Technology Government of Andhra Pradesh, stated that the state government firmly stands to support the automobile, auto components & EV ecosystem in the state through pro-active administration, stable policy and capable human resource. Reddy said, “The Government of Andhra Pradesh invites component industry to put more ancillary units and become a partner in the development of the state. We would extend all support to develop a vibrant automotive value chain ecosystem in the State.”

Speaking at the event, Arun Goel, Secretary, Department of Heavy Industries, Ministry of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises, “The technological leap achieved by the auto industry will be critical to usher in the next phase of growth. It is imperative to have Industry & Academia partnership to bring more innovation and cutting-edge technology for the Indian industries.”

Nearly 400 companies launched over 1,200 new products at a time when the automotive segment is undergoing a significant transformation. The event was the biggest auto components expo held in the country by far.
