The Society of Indian
Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), in an official communiqué observed that the
auto industry had registered a decline in sales by 9.31 per cent over the
period of April-May 2019. The industry produced a total 4,879,375 vehicles in
April-May 2019 as against 5,380,019 in April-May 2018.
The sale of Passenger
Vehicles has declined by 18.82 per cent. The sale for Passenger Cars, Utility
Vehicle & Vans declined by 22.98 per cent, 6.15 per cent and 28.57 per cent respectively.
Commercial Vehicles segment registered a decline of 8.05 per cent, Medium &
Heavy Commercial Vehicles declined by 16.72 per cent, and Light Commercial
Vehicles declined by 2.44 per cent in April-May 2019 over the same period last
Three Wheelers sales have
declined by 6.56 per cent. Among Three Wheelers, Passenger Carrier sales
registered 7.55 per cent decline and Goods Carrier declined by 2.53 per cent.
Two Wheelers sales
registered a fall of 11.68 per cent. Among these, Scooters, Motorcycles and
Mopeds declined by 17.67 per cent, 8.36 per cent and 17.72 per cent
In April-May 2019,
overall automobile exports declined by 0.27 per cent. Interestingly, the Passenger
Vehicles and Two Wheelers exports grew by 5.24 per cent and 1.65 per cent
respectively. Commercial Vehicles and Three Wheelers registered a staunch
decline of 55.01 per cent, and 10.91 per cent respectively.
