Mercedes-Benz India has created a new record in Indian luxury car market by achieving highest-ever monthly sales in July 2010. The German automaker sold 520 units, recording a growth of over 80%. During the same period last year, the company sold 288 units. Strong contribution in July 2010 came from SUVs, which sold over 60 units compared to 140 units sold during the period of January-December 2009! The E-Class sold 210+ units in July 2010 recording a growth of almost 250% over July 2009.The Greenfield facility of the company at Chennai would soon be rolling out radial tyres, and thus become the company's second truck/bus radial tyre manufacturing facility after Mysore, said Dr. Raghupati Singhania, Vice Chairman & Managing Director, JK Tyre & Industries Ltd, while commenting upon the achievement. The Mysore plant was recently expanded to 8 lakh tyres per annum recently. Further expansion will see the capacity go up to 1 million tyres per annum. The Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance (Japan) recognized all the five plants of the company, recently, for Total Productive Maintenance.
