Auto industry is facing various challenges like stringent emission norms, increased safety needs, lightweighting, productivity issues, reducing the time-to-market. Tell us how is industry overcoming these challenges?
The automotive industry is currently experiencing a huge transformation process. But if we take a look into the future of the industry, one thing is clear: there will always be a need for propulsion systems. Every vehicle, regardless of the propulsion type, will have to move from point A to point B. We have been identifying market needs for years in order to deliver the right solutions at the right time, resulting in an already very broad portfolio of solutions. Therefore, we are well prepared to meet said challenges.We have evolved our company to become balanced across combustion, hybrid and electric propulsion architectures.As a global leader in clean and efficient technology solutions, BorgWarner drives clean mobility as we already offer a comprehensive product portfolio for hybrid (HEV) and electric vehicles (EV) and have comprehensive knowledge of emission-reducing technologies.
How BorgWarner support India with its products?
We already manufacture our innovative products in other regions and supply all major OEMs. Our focus here in India is to support local OEMs need and we work on localisation for our competitiveness. We are steadily working on broadening our local supplier base in order to make our solutions more cost-effective, while upkeeping or even enhancing product performance at the same time.
Electric vehicles (EV) are gaining traction. What future do you see for E-Mobility? What do you suggest to help propel EV market grow in India?
The awareness for sustainability and climate protection is increasing globally and governments all around the world are acting accordingly. New standards are part of a very promising development, especially in India with a steady migration of the market towards next-generation technology. Electrification will for sure hugely contribute to a more sustainable mobility. However, BorgWarner’s goal is to help manufacturers to also improve other propulsion technologies and create solutions that support a cleaner, more energy-efficient world. At the same time, we aim not to lose sight of the vehicle’s best performance.
On the eve of Auto Expo 2020, would you like to give any message to the industry?
The Indian automotive industry is currently facing the new BS VI emission standards and experiencing a huge shift from diesel to gasoline powered vehicles. We would like to showcase that we can make a significant contribution to the drive towards more modern and environmentally friendly mobility. With this being said, we aim to use our global experience to focus on offering new and innovative solutions to help manufacturers meet stringent emission standards, while still improvingfuel efficiency as well as vehicleperformance.
Post BS VI implementation, will auto industry experience positive growth? What effects will BS VI have on EVs?
We at BorgWarner see the introduction of BS VI emission standards as both a challenge and an opportunity. However, we fully support the new emission norm in India and are well positioned to help our Indian customers meet these new requirements – thanks to our fast-to-market solutions, existing local validation and testing capabilities.
