Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has launched the facelift of its premium sedan, the Camry
Hybrid. The Hybrid Camry is manufactured at the company's facility in Bidadi making
India the ninth country to locally produce this car. It is also the first hybrid to receive
demand incentives under the government's newly launched FAME scheme. The car is
priced at Rs 31.92 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
Camry Hybrid is equipped with Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive (HSD) powertrain. This
"full hybrid" powertrain combines the performance of a 2.5 litre Atkinson cycle four-
cylinder petrol engine and a high-torque electric motor, mated to an Electronically
Controlled Continuous Variable Transmission (E-CVT). Toyota claims a combined power
output of 202 bhp. Being a hybrid its USP is good mileage with very low emissions.
Company claims a fuel economy of 19.16 kmpl with just 122.8 gm of carbon-dioxide
being emitted per kilometre.
Speaking at the launch Naomi Ishii, MD, TKM said, "Camry a symbol of Toyota's
prestige has been well received in India. We would like to thank the customers of Camry
for its success in India. We have sold more than 8000 Camry since launch. There is
increased awareness and acceptance of Hybrid in the Indian market. Currently Camry
hybrid constitutes 73% of total Camry sales."
