The auto industry produced a total of 2,363,376 vehicles including passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, three wheelers, two wheelers and quadricycle in April 2019 as against 2,646,257 in April 2018, registering a decline of (-) 10.69 per cent over the same month last year.
The sale of PVs declined by (-) 17.07 per cent in April 2019 over the same month last year. Within the PVs, the sales for passenger cars, utility vehicles and vans declined by (-) 19.93 per cent, (-) 6.67 percent and (-) 30.11 percent respectively in April 2019 over the same month last year.
The overall CVs segment registered a decline of (-) 5.98 per cent in April 2019 as compared to the same month last year. Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles (M&HCVs) declined by (-) 13.56 per cent and Light Commercial Vehicles declined by (-) 1.10 per cent in April 2019 over the same month last year.
Three-wheelers’ sales declined by (-) 7.44 per cent in April 2019 over the same month last year. Within the 3W, passenger carrier sales registered a de-growth of (-) 9.24 per cent and goods carrier declined by (-) 0.17 per cent in April 2019 over April 2018.
Two-wheelers’ sales registered a de-growth of (-) 16.36 per cent in April 2019 over April 2018. Within the 2W segment, scooters, motorcycles and mopeds declined by (-) 25.89 per cent, (-) 11.81 per cent and (-) 5.88 percent respectively in April 2019 over April 2018.
In April 2019, overall automobile exports declined by (-) 0.05 per cent. While the PV exports grew by 11.60 per cent, CVs, 3Ws and 2Ws registered a de-growth of (-) 54.32 per cent, (-) 7.53 per cent and (-) 0.04 per cent respectively in April 2019 over the same period last year.
