Michigan, May 13, 2019: BorgWarner will display some of its innovative electrification solutions in booth 291 at the Automotive Engineering Exposition 2019 Yokohama, to be held at the Pacifico Yokohama in Japan, May 22-24, 2019. The show is the largest technology exhibition in Japan and gives automotive engineers the opportunity to see the latest technology and product offerings.

“Globally, the electrification of propulsion systems is on the rise and we expect additional growth within the next few years. During this year’s Automotive Engineering Exposition, we are showcasing our competitive, efficient products that support our vision of a clean energy-efficient world,” said Scott Gallett, Vice President, Marketing, Public Relations and Government Affairs, BorgWarner Inc.

With the ongoing changes and advancements in the automotive industry, especially in electrification, BorgWarner is using its experience and expertise to proactively develop next-generation electrification technologies. At the show, BorgWarner will showcase newly developed Onboard Battery Chargers (OBC) for the first time in Japan. In response to market demands for improvements in efficiency, BorgWarner is introducing its best in class power density performance which employs the highest efficiency pioneering silcon carbide technology. The OBC is installed in a hybrid or electric vehicle for battery charging. It is able to adapt to 400V, 650V and 800V voltage range, compatible with batteries of any chemistry.

The highlights of this year’s BorgWarner booth include the eAxle iDM for e-mobility and the eBooster electrically driven compressor. The eAxle consists of a custom HVH electric motor, power electronics module and gearbox in an optimised system solution. There are a variety of models planned for the portfolio, all of which can easily integrate in the front or rear axles of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles depending on use. The eBooster was developed to address the needs of the growing 48-volt EV trend. It delivers boost on demand until the turbocharger takes over, improving boost at low engine speeds and nearly eliminating turbo lag.

Complementing the 48-volt technology, Motor Generator With Integrated Electronics (MGI) also will be on display. It provides higher system efficiency and improved energy recovery capability to meet increasing power demands. BorgWarner also will show its P2 on-axis hybrid module. This easy-to-install technology places the electric motor directly between the internal combustion engine and the transmission, and is able to convert a combustion-powered vehicle into a hybrid vehicle without the necessity of changing the transmission or engine. Visitors can experience it through an augmented reality application device at the booth.

At the show, BorgWarner also will display its VTG turbocharger. Because of the increasing worldwide demand for more efficient gasoline engines in combustion and hybrid cars, BorgWarner expects the penetration for turbocharged internal combustion engines also will increase from 20 per cent to 67 per cent per vehicle by 2027.
