According to Lord Bamford, Chairman, JCB, the company is now focusing on the development of a zero-carbon hydrogen motor after launching the industry’s first hydrogen-powered excavator in 2020.
Lord Bamford said that, there should be continuous use and development of the internal combustion engine. It is believed that the use of fossil fuel may be ruled out in the future but that does not mean that internal combustion engines do not have any role currently. He added that the company is working on the natural engineering challenges related to hydrogen motor.
He feels that such challenges help the company to meet the zero carbon dioxide emissions target at a much faster pace.
The company has started a “switch to zero” policy and the hydrogen motor seems to be a perfect fit for the same. It is a cost-effective, high-use and high-energy option as well. It can work as the quickest option to reach the target of zero carbon dioxide emission. It is observed that there are many discussions about the merits of using battery and fuel cell technology in machinery.
