New Delhi
Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, India’s largest carmaker, announced a shutdown of all its manufacturing plants in Haryana and Gujarat in an effort to re-route oxygen that is used by its large vendor base for medical necessities.
The company will stop production in all its factories for a 9-day period. Suzuki Motor Gujarat has also followed suit to keep its three factories closed for the stated time.
Maruti usually schedules an annual maintenance shutdown for its manufacturing plants in June every year. This year, the company has advanced the shutdown from May 1, 2021 to May 9, 2021.
The announcement was shared via a regulatory note a day after Maruti Suzuki posted its fourth quarter results for FY2020-21. It comes amid the increasing cases of the second wave of COVID-19 infections.
Other companies such as Tata Group, Reliance Industries Ltd, JSW Steel, and many others have also stepped up to divert oxygen to patients in hospitals across the country.
