Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari urged vehicle manufacturers to improve quality and standards constantly to align with international benchmarks. He mandated safety audits at all stages of road development to reduce accidents.
Speaking virtually in an event organised by MIT-ADT University, Gadkari said that original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in India were performing poorly despite having a good market share in the Indian auto industry. He added that OEMs should remember their social responsibility and ensure that they manufacture vehicles without compromising with the global crash standards, even if it comes at a higher cost.
Nitin Gadkari shared his vision to achieve a 50% reduction in road accident deaths by 2025 and zero accidents and deaths by 2030. He added that in the global scenario, vehicle engineering technology has matured to a great extent. He stressed the importance of training drivers and establishing advanced training institutes and centres.
