Auto component
major, Bosch has announced the shutdown of operations at its Nashik plant till
midnight of May 23. All employees—direct, indirect and off-roll—were directed
to stay at home as per a regulatory filing by Bosch Ltd.

The company’s
move comes at a time when the Maharashtra government has issued directives with
the clear intention of breaking the COVID-19 transmission chain amid the surge
of COVID-19 cases.

Bosch noted that
while the impact on the company’s business is yet to be assessed, the
suspension of operations will slightly affect supplies to Original Equipment
Manufacturers (OEMs) and the
automotive
aftermarket segment
. The aftermarket segment is already strained due
to the many lockdowns as well as supply chain instabilities.

Bosch’s Nashik
plant employs around 2500 associates. The plant supplies common rail systems
along with a key portfolio of injectors and nozzles for passenger cars, heavy
and commercial vehicles and tractor segments.
